Our practice welcomes patients of all ages. We take pride in our ability to serve the dental needs of your entire family! Good oral hygiene -- developed early in life can lead to better overall oral health throughout a person's life. Therefore, we offer several fun programs for young children to encourage their desire to visit our office and learn how to care for their teeth.
Once your family is enrolled into our care, we will provide continuous follow up to ensure that you stay on a healthy schedule for preventive care.
In addition to children, our team is trained to care for adults of all ages. Research shows that older adults can actually lower their overall dental expenses with preventive dental care and more routine dental visits. Contact our practice today to schedule your next preventive care visit.
Preventive dentistry is the practice of caring for your teeth to keep them healthy. This helps to avoid cavities, gum disease, enamel wear and more. There are many forms of preventive dentistry, such as daily brushing, dental cleanings, fluoride and sealants. Preventive care visits usually last between 40-60 minutes depending on the age and health of the patient. Many of our practice locations offer multiple providers to allow several family members to conveniently be seen at the same time.
During your first visit, your dentist will take a full health history. On follow-up visits, if your health status has changed, make sure to tell your dentist.
What you can expect during most visits:
Gum disease, or periodontal disease, can erode the foundation of your mouth and can pose a threat to your body. Gum disease is very common and contagious. Close to 80% of adults currently have some form of the disease. Research indicates it is the leading cause of adult tooth loss if left untreated. Periodontal disease, is a silent, persistent bacterial infection around the gums and the bone that support your teeth. Some common symptoms that can give you an indication that you may have an infection are: red/ swollen/ tender gums, bleeding gums after brushing or flossing, persistent bad breath, pain while chewing, or loose teeth. Our periodontal therapy team can determine if you have periodontal disease by performing a quick and relatively painless test to measure the size and depth of the pockets of the gums. Pockets that are 4 or more millimeters (mm) in depth may indicate infection. Our experienced team screens patients at every dental visit to ensure early detection and treatment of periodontal disease. Upon diagnoses, our capable team offers several options for periodontal therapy at our practice.
Dental Sealants are a preventive treatment used in both children and adults to protect the permanent back teeth from decay. Most cavities start in the deep grooves of the back teeth. A Sealant is a plastic coating that is placed into the grooves while in a liquid state, then quickly hardened with a bright light. A special bonding technique is used to ensure a tight attachment to the tooth. As a result, one application of sealants protects for many years.
Every child should have his or her permanent molars sealed when the first molars erupt around age six and again when the second molars erupt around age twelve. During your dental visit, be sure to discuss the condition of your family's sealants with your provider to ensure that they have protected their molars.
Too much demineralization without enough remineralization to repair the enamel layer leads to tooth decay. Fluoride strengthens existing enamel and prevents tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth. It can reverse early decay and reduce sensitivity. Fluoride treatments are recommended every 3-6 months depending on your oral health conditions. In young children, fluoride is also beneficial for developing teeth. However, it is just as vital for the adult mouth, perhaps even more important in some ways. There are a number of adult conditions that increase the risk of decay: dry mouth, chronic illness or medications, gum disease, gum recession, frequent cavities, crowns, bridges, braces, pitted or grooved teeth, and teens/ adults who consume large quantities of carbonated beverages and/or sweet snacks with excess sugar.
Our practice offers several fluoride options for in office treatment or home care.
The goal of oral cancer screening is to identify mouth cancer early, when there is a greater chance for a cure. Research has shown that over 75% of head and neck cancers begin in the oral cavity.
Our dentists perform a visual and physical examination of your mouth during your routine dental visit to screen for oral cancer. When concern arises, our dentists may use additional tests to aid in identifying areas of abnormal cells in your mouth. A biopsy may be scheduled and performed in our practice for further evaluation. Our practice works with an excellent pathology lab to evaluate and diagnose conditions for our patients. Our practice understands that early diagnosis is essential to our patient's oral health.

A crown is a covering made to restore a tooth back to health & function. When teeth are damaged from decay, weakened from large old fillings, worn or broken down, crowns can be utilized to give you back healthy functional teeth. Our practice works with our exclusive dental lab to create your custom crown with the most durable materials available.
A bridge can be utilized in cases where the patient is not a candidate for a dental implant. The alternative to replace the missing tooth is to have a bridge placed. An alternate tooth is created by our lab and attached to two crowns made for the natural teeth that are on either side of the space where the tooth is missing. These crowns and the alternate tooth are one piece and are fixed over the natural teeth... unlike a denture, bridges are not removable. A bridge will not only help with appearance and function but can also allow other teeth to last longer by reducing the stress put on them when a tooth or teeth are missing. Bridges can be used to replace teeth that are missing from any place in your mouth as long as the teeth that would be used to anchor the bridge are healthy and strong.
Inlays and Onlays are tooth-colored restorations that are used in place of silver fillings on the chewing surfaces of back teeth. Cosmetic fillings look extremely natural and typically require that far less of the tooth be removed during restoration.
The silver hued material that was used by dentists for decades is called dental amalgam. Dr.Trout was one of the first dentists in the coastal Georgia area to stop using this material once it was found to contain a high concentration of mercury (approximately 50%) in the compound. Research shows that low levels of mercury vapor are released over the lifetime of the amalgam filling. The amount of mercury vapor released increases when the tooth is exposed to hot or cold beverages or grinding of the teeth. Exposure to mercury vapor has been linked to brain and kidney conditions such as Alzheimer's disease or multiple sclerosis. Contact our practice today to schedule your complimentary consultation to discuss the safe removal of amalgam from your mouth.
For the comfort of our patient experience, our practice offers several sedation options. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is most often used for patients who are anxious or nervous about dental treatment. It eases their fears so that they can relax and receive treatment comfortably and safely. Nitrous oxide is administered by placing a small mask over the patient's nose. As the gas begins to work, the patient becomes calm. Most patients remain awake and can talk while under this type of sedation. When the gas is turned off, the effects of sedation wears off almost immediately.
Oral conscious sedation can be combined with nitrous sedation or used independently during dental procedures. With Oral concious sedation, sedatives are prescribed and administered for the dental procedure. Most patients will remain awake and responsive during treatment with sedation and will not feel any pain. It is likely that the patient will not remember details of their dental appointment while under sedation
Full Dentures: Where there are no remaining teeth to support a permanently fixed prosthesis a full denture can be fabricated. This prosthesis can be made beautifully lifelike and comfortable, restoring a full occlusion and permitting normal function and speech. The cosmetics are customized and personalized so that you can obtain a look that matches your goals.
Partial Dentures: In situations where there are not enough strong remaining teeth to support a fixed bridge, a removable alternative can be fabricated. These removable bridges or dentures can be made beautifully lifelike and comfortable... restoring a full occlusion, normal function and speech.

Six Month Smiles is a revolutionary orthodontic service for adults who have, until now, felt like they would need to wait 2 years with fixed braces.
Traditional long-term adult orthodontics may take one to two years, or even more in some cases, to straighten all your teeth. Many adults simply don't want to wear braces for that long.
Six Month Smiles braces uses tooth-colored (white) brackets and wires. They're barely visible!
Six Month Smiles Braces are appropriate for correcting spaces, gaps, crooked, or crowded teeth. If the teeth that show in your smile aren't straight, Six Month Smiles may be the solution for you.
Six Month Smiles braces are very similar to conventional adult orthodontics as it pertains to brackets and wires being used. The mechanism of moving the teeth is the same. The difference between Six Month Smiles Braces and conventional braces is the focus of the treatment. With Six Month Smiles, the focus is only on the teeth that show in your smile. The goal of Six Month Braces is to give you a smile you can be proud of in a reasonable amount of time. It addresses the cosmetic issues of orthodontics. Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is a dental procedure in which the diseased or damaged nerve of a tooth is removed so that the tooth can be saved or restored. Often this is a predictable way to save a tooth that may otherwise be uncomfortable or painful resulting in a desire to ultimately remove the tooth. Our practice philosophy is to save the natural tooth whenever possible. We offer many restorative options for a tooth that has been treated with a root canal.
Sometimes a tooth requires extraction due to that amount of existing decay or loss of bone supporting the teeth. In other situations, the teeth may require removal to ensure the successful outcome of orthodontic care. Our dental professionals are experienced with extractions of impacted or erupted wisdom teeth. To ensure patient comfort during these oral surgery procedures, we offer sedation options.
Bone grafts are often used with the implant procedures to ensure a successful outcome. Our team is experienced with a variety of dental implant systems that will provide the best outcome for our patient's well being.
Our practice performs evaluations and biopsy procedures for concerning areas detected in our oral cancer screening.
Implants are an increasingly popular alternative to dentures and bridges. Restoring your smile to its natural beauty has never been easier. They have many advantages, including their natural appearance, improved comfort and unequaled convenience. If you are considering implants, please contact us and schedule your complimentary consultation so that we evaluate whether you are a candidate for this procedure. We will discuss you options and help you make the decision that is right for you.
